Grieving over the death of his lovely gypsy wife, unable to find work and overburdened with debts, he is overjoyed when the invitation to come to Cremona and accept the post as director at the Institute of Violin Making. They set out on foot across Hungary, through Yugoslavia (written in 1968) and finally into Italy. Poppa finds his weariness lifted by the gaiety that is his son's gypsy heritage, while Turi's high spirits must sometimes be termpered by Poppa's wisdom. On they press toward their goal, dreaming of the day Poppa will again make the violins they both love. 186 pages with delightful black & white drawings. The cover is green cloth with gold lettering on the spine. The jacket has light wear at the corners with one tiny tear, and light wear at the spine ends, with a 1/8" tear at the spine top. On the front there is a very narrow strip of the cover missing, just the top paper, about 1" long. It is near a white line and is hard to notice. There is a 1/2" tear at the top back, and very light shelfwear at the bottom edges. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
