This volume contains O Pioneers!, The Song of the Lark, and Alexander's Bridge. O Pioneers! is the classic, moving tale of the frontier; When Alexandra Bergson's father dies she is left in charge of his unsuccessful farm and her younger brothers. The unyielding land of the Nebraska Divide would be challenge enough, but a violent passion shakes this courageous woman to her core, changing her life forever. In The Song of the Lark, Thea Kronborg, an ambitious young singer, has to contend with the narrow-mindedness of her neighbors in a tiny Colorado town. This quintessential story of the struggles of a young artist, adeptly told with humor, intelligence, and great sensitivity, has been an inspiritation to thousands of readers. Alexander's Bridge, Cather's first published novel, tells of handsome, blond Bartley Alexander, a famous bridge engineer born in the West and happily married to a Bostonian. When he meets a woman he had been in love with long before, his heart is torn apart, jeopardizing his work and marriage. Cather's simple, elegantly told story draws the reader inevitably to the catastrophic conclusion. The binding has spilled on the front bottom area what appears to be coffee, which soaked also into the DJ. Did not touch the pages. The cloth is rubbed at the bottom front, back, and near the spine end. The DJ is in a Brodart cover. 523 pages, no marks or tears. A few pages were turned over a bit at the top. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
