This story is set in Greece during the fourth century, B. C. It tells of the actor Nikeratos. Through the eyes of this warm, sympathetic and living character we experience the war-weary, self-searching world of his time. Always on his travels Niko, the tragedian, takes with him an antique mask of Apollo, a relic of the theater's golden age. From being his mascot the mask becomes by degrees his artistic conscience. The binding has no wear but is somewhat cocked. The page edges are soiled at the bottom corner, likely shelf wear. The jacket shows shelf wear at the top, and at the top and bottom of the spine. 371 pages; prior owner's name on book plate. Bookstore where purchased has a small, attractive sticker on the inside back binding. The price is not clipped. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
