 2. Plaidy, Jean  The Spanish Bridegroom
New York G. P. Putnam's Sons 1971 Book Club (BCE/BOMC) Hard Cover Fine Fine Ex-Library 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
To restore the power of Spain and bring England back to the iron embrace of the Holy Church, the young Philip agreed to wed Mary Tudor. His golden hair and pale skin filled the middle-aged Queen with thoughts of hither-to-forbidden pleasures. Yet again is Philip the servant of his country. Set against the glittering courts of sixteenth-century Europe, the Spain of the dreaded Inquisition and the tortured England of Bloody Mary, this powerful novel traces the story of Philip II - and of the women who came to know this man whom history lists as a cold-blooded monster, only as a devoted father and sensual lover. Recycled from a patient library. 338 pages, no marks or tears. A book club edition.
