3 Bryson, Bill I'M a Stranger Here Myself: Notes on Returning to America after Twenty Years Away
076790382X / 9780767903820; After living in Britain for two decades, Bill Bryson moved back to the United States with his English wife and four children. They were greeted by a new and improved America that boasts microwave pancakes, twenty-four-hour dental-floss hotlines, and the staunch conviction that ice is not a luxury item. Delivering the brilliaant comic musings that are a Bryson hallmark, he recounts his sometimes disconcerting reunion with the land of his birth. The result is a book filed with hysterical scenes of one man's attempt to reacquaint himself with his own country, but it is also an extended if at times bemused love letter to his homeland. 288 pages. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

4 Cosby, Bill Fatherhood
0385234104 / 9780385234108; I am not a psychologist or sociologist. I do have a doctorate in education, but much more important than my doctorate is my delight in kids. I devote part of my professional life to entertaining and educating them. I like children. Nothing I've ever done has given me more joys and rewards than being a father to my five. In between these joys and rewards, of course, has come the natural strife of family life, the little tensions and conflicts that are part of trying to bring civilization to children. The more I have talked about such problems, the more I have found that all other parents had the very same ones and are relieved to hear me turning them into laughter. Yes, every parent knows the source of this laughter. Come share more of it with me know. " BILL COSBY The red and blue binding is not worn; there is a small darker area on the front where there may have been a label. 178 pages, no marks or tears. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

5 Greenfield, Jeff The People's Choice : a Cautionary Tale
0399138129 / 9780399138126; Few people know the absurdities of American politics better than Jeff Greenfield, ABC News' award-winning political and media analyst, and he's poured them all into one of the funniest, scariest, most plausible what-if novels ever written. When the President-elect dies just two days after his close victory, the universal assumption is that his running mate moves up. After all, isn't that the way the Constitution works? Well, actually - no. Until the electoral college meets in December, nobody has been elected, and with the candidate dead, the electors can indeed vote for the vice-presidential candidate - or they can vote for the other guy, their mothers-in-law, or (cringe) Geraldo Rivera, for that matter. The DJ has minor wear at the top edge. ; Octavo (standard book size); 309 pages

7 Martin, Steve Pure Drivel
0786864672 / 9780786864676; This is a book of short written pieces by Steve Martin. His talent had always defined definition: An actor who's kept us laughing for over 25 years, a razor-sharp screenwriter, an acclaimed playwright. In this very funny collection of humorous riffs, those who thought Martin's gifts were confined to the screen will discover what readers of The New Yorker magazine already know: That Martin is a master of the written word. 104 pages. This slim volume would make a wonderful gift. The bottom spine is a bit bumped on the book as well as the jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

11 Schulz, Charles M. Security is a Thumb and a Blanket
This book follows Schulz's first hard-bound best seller, Happiness is a Warm Puppy. That was a commentary on happiness; this book is a commenatary on security starting with, of course, Linus and his blanket. All of the Charlie Brown characters are featured doing things that make them feel secure. A clever little book. The binding has light wear at the top and bottom spine ends. The DJ has several chips with two minor tears at the bottom, and a few chips at the top. Small tears and chips at the top and bottom of the back as well, with a 1/4" by 1/2" piece missing on the bottom. The ends of the spine are also worn, and there is a minor scuff on the front. The inside flaps are fine. Unpaginated; the left side is in black with white lettering and the right side is the drawing. There is one page near the middle the appears to have been glued, a bit overdone; pages are sewn in. This is a funny book for the whole family! No marks or tears. 24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall.

14 Streeter, Edward Daily - Except Sundays or What Every Commuter Should Know
To that long-suffering body of Americans who spend one-twelfth of their lives shuttling between home and office, this little book should be light shining through darkness. To those who are not commuters and hope to remain free men, it will be a vindication of their good sense. Both Streeter and Gluyas Williams, the illustrator, were at one time editors of The Harvard Lampoon. Now they have come together again in a work of stark realism, celebrating the miseries an grandeur's of commuting and compounded of blood, tears, old ticket stubs - the very stuff of life. End papers slightly yellowed. Jacket has wear at corners and spine ends, and a small tear at the bottom front. Well illustrated and very funny. 15 Wodehouse, P. G. Biffen's Millions
Biffen's Millions is just as glorious as the sixty-seven Wodehouse books that preceded it, and it will appeal to readers of all ages who do not feel committed to readig exclusively about the Grim Realities of Life. The plot concerns an amiable young man named Biffen, a beautiful young lady named Gwendoline, an eccentric godfather who may or may not have been "bonkers" when he left his fortune to Biffen under Certain Stipulated Conditions. The cloth binding is fine; the DJ is in a Brodart cover and is fine. This book was rescued from a hospital library that was closing. It has a stamp at the bottom edge of the papers, a pocket and a stamp inside front and on the last page. There is a notice glued in to remember to return the book, kind of cute. 222 pages, no other marks or tears. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. ; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall
