3283012393 / 9783283012397; NEW - Gustave Eiffel was the creator of the supreme symbol of Paris, which was quite revolutionary at the time. From the age of 25 the young engineer was entrusted with the construction of a railway bridge in Bordeaux which fired his ambition and earned him the respect of colleagues. He made a mark on every corner of the globe with his striking and distinctive designs for over 300 buildings, which included the framework for the Statue of Liberty. In 1892 he withdrew from the public eye after being implicated in a scandal, but his creativity blossomed, researching aerodynamics and developing of the science of meteorology. Public activities never dominated his private life, and he passed on to his descendants his humanist principles and profound sense of family values. His great-great-grandson, author of this book, chose to champion those traits. The wealth of archival material, much previously unpublished, presents an intimate portrait of Gustave Eiffel, creator of the impossible. Included is the Family Tree, Awards, Titles, translations of handwritten letters, selected and English bibliographies and picture credits. The author lives in an apartment at the top of the Eiffel Tower. The black binding has gold lettering on the spine. ; B&W and Color Photographs; Folio 13" - 23" tall; 175 pages
