Never a City so Real; a Walk in Chicago, Alex, Kotlowitz
1 Alex, Kotlowitz Never a City so Real; a Walk in Chicago
1400046211 / 9781400046218; Chicago is one of America's most iconic, historic, and fascinating cities, as well as a major travel destination. Chicago, like America, is a kind of refuge for outsiders. It's probably why the author found comfort there. This book is not so much a tour of a place as a chronicle of its soul, its lifeblood. It is a tour of the people of Chicago, who have been the author's guides into this city's - and in a broader sense, this country's - heart. The jacket has a water mark on the inside at the bottom spine. It doesn't seem to have affected the book but shows through to the front a wee bit.. The inside front has a map of the neighborhoods - the back names all of them. ; Octavo (standard book size); 160 pages

Signed by the author - The city of Florence (Firenze) is showcased in this beautifully illustrated volume. The colors are intense, and the text is interesting and enjoyable. If you have been to Florence you will recognize the many small museums and out-of-the-way places where wonderful works of art, of all types, can be found. If you are planning a trip, this is a fabulous pre-visit book to read or thumb through. Try to get there early, or stay a day or two to take in all there is. If you are early enough, you can take a boat to the Island of Murano and see glass blown and purchase beautiful items. If art isn't your thing, the architecture in Florence is amazing. Included are 194 color illustrations, and the book was put in a fitted cover so it has no damage at the corners or elsewhere. This book includes as well, a panoramic view in "Photorama 180" which is laid in the back and has about half of the first page missing as someone tried to take it out.
