The corners and spine ends have light wear, and a ghost of a sticker on the ffep. ; This well-illustrated volume brings to Christians prayers for Sundays and Holydays. The author's original intent was for all Christians to have this in their home, and especially those who lived in rural areas and were not able to get to church every week and holyday. Originally printed in German in 1690, this book includes information on the lives of many saints, explanations of Christian faith and duty and of church ceremonies, and much more. Very well illustrated, a list of movable feast days is included. Inside is a momento of the Silver Jubilee of Rev. Francis P. Faust from Alexandria, Indiana, and a card from John Cardinal Farley dated March 9, 1913, listing The Promises of Our Lord. Both have illustrations on the verso. The maroon binding is beautifully decorated with blackstamp on the entire front and spine, with lettering in gold on the spine. The spine is tight with no markings on the binding. ; B&W Illustrations; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 703 pages

American Grace; How Religion Divides and Unites Us, Putnam, Robert D. and Campbell, David E.
5 Putnam, Robert D. and Campbell, David E. American Grace; How Religion Divides and Unites Us
No; Unique among nations, America is deeply religious, religiously diverse, remarkably tolerant. But in recent decades the nation's religious landscape has been reshaped. In 1960s religious observance plummeted. In the 1970s and 1980s, a conservative reaction produced the rise of evangelicalism and the Religious Right. Since the 1990s, however, young people, turned off by that linkage between faith and conservative politics have abandoned organized religion. The result has been a growing polarization - the ranks of religious conservatives and secular liberals have swelled, leaving a dwindling group of religious moderates in between. At the same time, interfaith marriages has increased while religious identities have become more fluid. This is an important book about American religious life and an essential book for understanding our nation today. Includes endnotes and index. The binding is pictorial, and the jacket onionskin. It has tiny folds at the spine ends. ; Octavo (standard book size); 673 pages
