1 Crisler, Lois Captive Wild
A narrative of the seven years the author spent, with her husband, sharing her home and her life with a female wolf, her mates and wolf-dog pups. After finishing their assignment photographing the wildlife of the Arctic, they decided to bring home the five orphaned tundra wolf cubs they had reared. To have left them would have meant their slow death by starvation. The DJ has a bit of wear on one corner. The cloth binding is lightened at the back about 2" from the bottom on down. The spine bottom is worn and the edges have a bit of wear. All corners are worn. Spine is tight, 238 pages including sixteen pages of photographs. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Who Killed the Great Auk?, Gaskell, Jeremy
2 Gaskell, Jeremy Who Killed the Great Auk?
0198564783 / 9780198564782; The Great Auk is one of the world's best known extinct birds. On land it was clumsy and awkward, but in the sea, where it spent a large part of the year, it was perfectly adapted for swift and efficient movement. By the beginning of the 19th century sightings of the bird had become rare and only a few decades later even the most assiduous explorers could not find it. What happened to the Great Auk? The author pieces together all of the important historical data and takes us on a tour of some of the wildest and most remote communities on earth. We travel to Labrador, the Scottish Island of St. Kilda, Newfoundland, and follow intrepid naturalists as they put to sea in search of the very last of the Great Auks. Includes appendices, bibliography and index. ; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall; BIBLIO

4 Herriot, James The Best of James Herriot: Favourite Memories of a Country Vet
0312077165 / 9780312077167; As James Herriot said: "The publication of this book gives me the chance to pick out my favorite chapters (from past books) - the ones my family and I have laughed at over the years and the ones my readers have said they most enjoyed. . . . They say we should not live in the past and I have no reason to do so because I am still a practicing veterinary surgeon, still enjoying life. But to me, the past is a sweet, safe place to be, and through the medium of this book I shall spend a little time there now and then. " Lavishly presented in a splendid large-format volume that includes over 100 full-color pages of breathtaking photos, are the most unforgettable episodes from four of the most beloved books of our time. The jacket has somewhat worn corners and a 1" tear on the back. In a protective cover.; 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall

5 Hill, Jennifer [edited by] An Exhilaration of Wings : the Literature of Bird Watching
0670887242 / 9780670887248; Birdwatching as we know it emerged some time in the late eighteenth century, and a lively literature about birds and bird behavior positively erupted in the decades that followed. In this volume, Hill has for the first time gathered together the most vital and engaging of these writings which, while historically specific, are timeless in the evocation of what the passion for birds is all about. The jacket is beautifully illustrated and has light scuffing vertically front and back. 252 pages, including index. No marks or tears. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
