For grades one through four (Part 1) . The binding is good, some wear at edges but very solid. Ex-textbook that was used by several children, names listed on inside front cover. This is the teacher's book because it explains how to teach children spelling. 48 pages, two pages taped in a small area, one page torn in a small area at the bottom; none affect readability. 3 Hunt, J. N. Progressive Course in Spelling, Complete
This text book may have been novel at the time because the preface indicates that English is a much-ignored subject in high school. The book focuses on spelling and pronunciation. The two parts of the book are planned to cover three years, and words are grouped so as to study related words. This is a teacher's volume and was in use up to at least 1941 (dated 11/20/41) . The binding is worn through at the edges and spine ends. The top and bottom edges also have medium to heavy wear. Red with lettering and floral pattern on front done in black. There is a 1/4" hole on the spine front. On inside cover and front end page names of former owners. 176 pages, some have student notes (in pencil) ; pages are somewhat yellowed, and some pages have small spots, but generally in very good condition. The spine is tight, all pages are intact. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

5 Manly, John M. ; Rickert, Edith; Leubrie, Nina Good Reading - Fourth Reader
This reader is teacher's edition. There is a communication - from author to teacher, and at the beginning of each new section or story there is a short explanation of what one will learn reading that piece. It also includes games and learning exercises that would be relevent to use now. The blue binding has wear at all edges. Most of the wear is at the corners. The spine is tight; this is a good, solid book. 352 pages, one has a 1/2" tear, a few at the start have stains on them but past the very beginning the pages are clean. The prior owner has his name on the title page and the back inside end paper. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

7 McGuire, Edna and Phillips, Claude Anderson Adventuring in Young America
This is a small text book about how Colonial America. Using interesting language, some illustrations, and quizzes one can learn quite a bit from this little book. The frontispiece is in color, the other drawings in black & white. The subjects are split into three parts: 1) How the Colonists came to America; 2) Home Life in Colonial Days; 3) How the Pioneers lived. This appears to have been a teacher's copy or a smart kid because where one is to begin is noted in pencil. There is a notation by a prior owner that she was 10 years old when she had this book. After the quizzes or tests, there are ideas in each chapter on an activity that relates to what was just learned. Very interesting, good for home schooling because these things haven't changed. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
