A Week On the Concord and Merrimack Rivers, Slipcased, Thoreau, Henry David
4 Thoreau, Henry David A Week On the Concord and Merrimack Rivers, Slipcased
On the inside cover a book plate must have been placed and removed later, leaving two spots of paper. ; After David Thoreau graduated from Harvard, he and his brother built a boat and went on a week's journey along the Concord and Merrimack Rivers. This book, originally written in 1845 had 700 of the 1,000 copies printed returned to Thoreau. His writing in his first book went from topic to topic with no reason or purpose and readers became quite confused about what was being said. This Special Edition, printed for Christmas 1966, is pared down and a lot of irrelevant prose Is taken out. Also, this book is illustrated In brown illustrations to match the brown text color. This book, then, is written from his original journal so that thoughts and actions are in order, and the week on the Concord and Merrimack rivers makes more sense than the original publication. Included is a slipcase that is decorated with bees and flies. It's actually quite attractive. The boards are quarter cloth, with gold lettering on the spine and a few flying things on the boards. The slipcase has darkened around the area where the book is placed and on the top. ; B&W Illustrations; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 216 pages
