7 Fitzroy, Sir Almeric Memoirs
These two volumes complete the memoirs of Sir Almeric Fitzroy (1851 - 1935) . The memoir begins with a biographical note, with the actual dated entries beginning August 9th, 1898. This began with his appointment to the Clerk of the Council as head of the Administrative Staff. The memoirs discuss his work and family life during his 25-year occupation of this position. He served on many Committees and Royal Commissions, such as those on Physical Deterioration, Midwives, Venereal Disease, and the Dentist Act. His retirement due to age was announced at a council attended by the King as well as Council members. He retired June, 1923, ending his memoirs but recalling some of his best friends made during the 25 years of service. Vol. 1 has foxing on the half- and title page and a few pages in. Vol. 2 has a damp stain and moderate foxing on the frontispiece and title page. Some of the pages have not been opened, especially at the beginning of Vol. 1 and end of Vol. 2, where there is an index. The corners have light to moderate wear as do the spine ends. A blind stamp is seen on both volume covers; the spine of Vol. 1 is dappled in brown (covers are deep blue) . With 32 bright photographs. ; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall

13 Kinsella, Bridget Visiting Life Women Doing Time on the Outside
When a friend who taught creative writing at a maximum-security prison asked Bridget Kinsella to read the work of one of his best students, she readily agreed. As a publishing professional, Kinsella was used to getting manuscripts. Who knows? She asked herself, Maybe I can help this talented inmate get published. She had no idea that her correspondence with a convicted murderer serving life without parole would lead to a relationship that would change her life forever. Why in the world would anyone get involved with a prison inmate? This is a bluntly honest memoir in which Kinsella shares how she became part of a sorority she never thought she'd join - spending time with the wives, girlfriends and mothers of some inmates at Pelican Bay. 262 pages, with red remainder dot on bottom. 5 3/4" x 8 1/2

He teaches her to fly; she learns to navigate and operate radio and to take aerial photographs on the survey flights they take together. Difficulties included living in the constant glare of publicity, tracked down by journalists, photographers, and a gaping public. No longer can she speak her mind. Then the first house was built, the first child born. In a reversal of terrifying swiftness, the hour of gold turned into the hour of lead. 22 Muir, Sharona The Book of Telling: a Memoir
0805242341 / 9780805242348; After her father died, Sharona Muir learned by chance that he had invented Israels first rocket. This book tells the amazing story of how Muir unravels the truth about her father's many lives. Muir travels to Israel to interview her father's former colleagues - a practically unknown group of foreign refugees who had been summoned by David Ben-Gurion to create weapons for a new nation. Sharing memories of her father, they heldped her to understand him in the context of their astonishing past. She weaves together the secret scientists' stories with the story of Muir's father's life and her quest to rediscover him. She had known him as an inventor of medical instruments - his cardiac catheter is still saving lives today - and as a writer of consciousness and the cosmos, but uncovered much more. This is the story of human creativity in the face of war and hearbreak, of extremes both historical and personal. And it stresses how we invent not only ideas and machines, but also our very selves. 275 pages including an afterword and notes. The binding is textured natural paper with gold lettering. 8 drawings and photographs are included. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
