1 McCormack, Mike Crowe's Requiem : A Novel
0805053700 / 9780805053708; This is a fascinating book - a real page-turner! Set in the bleak backcountry of western Ireland, Crowe's Requiem tells a dark and other-worldly tale of a boy of uncertain origins, raised by a curmudgeonly grandfather, who sets forth to the city in quest of a new life and learning at University. There he meets a wordly-wise young woman with a curious claim to divinity, falls in love, and, unasked, does something for money which ultimately sacrifices himself to save her. Dreamlike and often surreal, this story is at once innocent and funny, and edged in acid. The jacket has some scuffs on it, and has a mark on the back. 232 pages. I couldn't put it down! 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
Henry Holt & Company
New York, NY, U.S.A., 1999, First Edition; Hard Bound, Cloth, New, Near Fine; Book
