Freuchen, Peter Book of the Eskimos
Peter Freuchen spent considerable time with the Eskimos, from his first to Greenland in 1906 up to the time of his death in 1957. Not only was he very concerned with the life and health of the Eskimos, he enjoyed their company and they enjoyed his, treating him as an equal while hunting. He married an Eskimo woman, who apparently died about 10 years later. His third wife wrote a knowledgeable preface to this book. Having read a little of it, Freuchen wrote expanding on his notes from his trips and it is very readable, like talking to a friend in a cozy setting. The cover is illustrated, as is the spine. The spine ends are wrinkled, the top front corner is worn and the other corners are a bit curled in. The blue cloth has sunned a bit, front and back, and there is a damp stain which does not go through to the text. The spine is also lightly sunned but very clean. This is a BOMC volume. Photos, decorated endpapers. 14 pages of photos.
