Dickinson Sweetser, Kate Boys and Girls From George Eliot
Among the novels of the English writer George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans), it is the exception to find one which does not contain a pretty picture of child life. They are bright, active, normal children who are great additions to her novels as they are such true pictures of boys and girls in everyday life. The children include Tom and Maggie - a true history of George Eliot's youthful experience with her brother only three years older than herself; Eppie, the weaver's adopted daughter, and the other children whose pranks and pastimes are related here. The brown cloth cover has heavy wear to one corner, a beautiful paste down, light wear at the spine ends and on the ffep, in red marker, the number 45. Illustrated in b&w, there is a damp stain on the right edges which shows primarily on the edges of some of the illustrations. The rear inner flap of the jacket is included.
