Gail Landreth, at 16, is the part-time secretary to Henry Allen, a naturalist. The story takes place in Florida. Allen and his secretary are canoeing the Everglades and stop at the Trading Post, where there are many American Indians. As the two walk up to the post, Gail notices something under a bush, which turns out to be a silver pin of a laughing mask. After making inquiries, no one seems to be missing it so she wears it. One of the Indians, upon seeing the pin, begins yelling at her and creating a ruckus. Turns out the person wearing that pin had stolen one of their boats. The red binding is slightly cocked, wear at the corners and some shelf wear at the top and bottom edges. The vertical edges are also somewhat worn, and the spine top and bottom are lightly worn. The spine is tight, but the inside end papers at front and back are partially torn. The binding fabric underneath is fine. The back has a 2" horizontal wrinkle. 203 pages, very yellowed but no mark or tears. Also includes the first chapter from The Runaway Caravan, a series of books called Trailer Stories for Girls. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
